Only four teams (Crosspool Juniors, Rawmarsh St. Josephs, Millmoor Juniors & Brinsworth Whitehill) can now mathematically catch the Red & Black Wizards as they continued their march towards promotion with a comfortable 2-0 win away at Hoyland Common Falcons. Four points from the remaining four games will be enough to see the boys plying their trade amongst the elite of the A division in the 2010/11 season.
Brunsmeer Athletic U11’s came here like boys on exactly the same weekend last season and lost 2-0, today they left the pitch like men with their heads held high.
Falcons goalkeeper had a superb game and was the difference between a comfortable win and a hammering, pulling off several top drawer saves. In contrast Brunsmeer shot stopper Kallum Rogers barely touched the ball, especially in the one sided second half, with unconfirmed Carling Opta stats showing 80% Brunsmeer possession and a whopping 94% of play being in the Hoyland half of the pitch for the second 30 minute period.
Hoyland, fresh from inflicting Crosspool’s first defeat of the season were always struggling against the superior passing and attacking play from the visitors. Chances came and went with Lewis Brown and Joe Ballard going close for Brunsmeer, but both were thwarted by the inspired custodian of the goals. Half time came with the scoreline still 0-0 but with Brunsmeer well on top – surely it was only a matter of time before they would beat the keeper.
Two goals in two second half minutes sealed the game. Firstly, on 40 minutes, Lewis Brown used his pace and power to slide in ahead of his marker to notch his 12th of the season after the keeper could only parry. The second goal came on 41 minutes from a Joe Holland tackle, skillfully tackling the ball into the bottom corner. Game over.
Three points next week away at Worksop Boys Club would all but guarantee promotion as Brinsworth couldn’t catch them and Brunsmeer’s goal difference (+56) is far greater than Millmoor (+5) who could finish on 47 points.
